Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity is slowly becoming one with each other. Without the latter, the former isn’t feasible.
A simple way to describe Cloud computing is that it’s the delivery of on-demand computing services through the means of internet, basically using someone elses computing power. It is used to deliver the processing power needed to run applications, storage of files or processing requests. Generally, to a person that needs those services, but lack the required infrastructure. It was storage that Cloud computing was initially famous for. (Rossi, B. 2017)
Now, let us see some trends that are quickly changing in Cloud Computing and Cyber Security.
The Growing Cloud
The uses of Cloud computing have widened with time, and its usage is proliferating. There has been an immense growth in the usage of this tech. There’s a study by PewResearch Institution. They reported that 69% of Americans are using a cloud computing service.
Perhaps, the sector that has profited the most from Cloud computing are businesses. It has brought a revolution in the operation of a firm. It is helping companies to automate much of their process. Many businesses of different sectors have started embracing cloud computing. (Pribanic, E. 2018)
The reason for this growth is that the services provided by the industry are multiplying. Not only have they rose, they also started solving specific needs of different sectors. There are services that are being used worldwide to realise various vast goals. A few of them are Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS). (Pribanic, E. 2018)
This increase has also given birth to many new providers trying to fulfil the needs of different businesses. Moreover, Cloud computing is poised to grow even more with time. It will be one of the trends in the future. (Pribanic, E. 2018)
Storage Remains As Important
Although the uses for Cloud computing has grown dramatically, storage remains as vital as it was. (Pribanic, E. 2018)
In this electronic era, where everything has an e-version, the industry needs more storage than ever. Not only that, but people are also using more cloud services to store their files. (Pribanic, E. 2018)
Doubling Down On Security
With such an increase in usage of this tech, the security has often not been able to keep up. Providing a service safely through the internet has brought many providers to its knees. It has even ruined many of them and their users. Such has prompted the industry to spend millions on security and privacy.
Although, efforts have been made to address the security issue. Many organisations are still not taking cybersecurity seriously. They are often ending up as casualties. (Mason, J. 2018)
Moreover, hackers are not backing down. Cyber-attacks are increasing. Ransomware attacks alone have risen 36 percent in 2018. Sadly, the attacks are growing in power. (Mason, J. 2018)
However, people do have grown more aware than they were before. They are treating ransomware attacks and many others as a significant threat. Efforts are also underway to educate businesses on the importance of security.
The entire tech industry is doubling down their efforts on security. (Mason, J. 2018)
A.I. To The Rescue.
As we mentioned before, AI and related technologies such as machine learning are making an absurd level of automation possible. Such is already revolutionising Cloud Computing. (Mason, J. 2018)
However, the area that it is poised to affect immensely is cybersecurity. It may even be the answer to all its woes. (Mason, J. 2018)
AI can help to identify threat beforehand and even fight it when appropriately configured. The fact that an AI configured software don’t need to rest. Also, being a lot smarter it can help immensely to put up a fight against viruses and hackers. (Mason, J. 2018)
