The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Network Operations

5th October 2018 by thom Leave a Comment

Artificial intelligence has brought about a revolution in the Information Technology industry.

Websites are an excellent way to market your presence in the world. Countless businesses from all industries are opting for websites to market. It is no wonder since the growth of the internet; websites are one of the safest options to reach your desired audience.

One of the essential aspects that bring a website to life (also keeps it alive) is the service that hosts your site. In simple terms, web hosting is the service that provides the infrastructure necessary to bring your website to life. A web host is a provider of that. (NORONHA, 2017)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is alleviating many industries to work more efficiently, and web hosting is poised to benefit the most due to it. (McAllister, 2017)

Then the question arises “how can AI help in web hosting services?” Let us look at some of the ways AI helps to solve various web hosting issues.

Security

One of the main concerns about the internet as a whole is security. The ever-intensifying rise in cyber threats has become a note of interest for all.

2017 was probably the worst year when it comes to cyber security. A ransom ware WannaCry attacked and shook many organizations to the core. Operations in more than 150 countries were affected. (Embee)

Fortunately, AI applications can help with identifying such threats. By evaluating patterns, they can discover the risks and alert you before they do any harm, or can mitigate attacks right away.

Productivity

Humans are always looking for ways to improve efficiency. Incorporating AI into services can help to achieve such a feat. It can save much time on labor-intensive tasks such as data processing and statistical analysis. It allows humans to work more effectively in their jobs. (McAllister, 2017)

Uptime

AI solutions are designed to look for patterns and recognize them when/where they appear. They could detect certain elements that indicate problems. Well-made AI solutions can be trained to look for anything and even take the required steps. They can also advise you to take action and give you clues where to investigate or troubleshoot. (McAllister, 2017)

Insights can prove valueable to predict surges in resource uses, for example traffic/bandwidth or scaleable resources to meet demand along with preventing issues. (McAllister, 2017)

Customer Service Bots

For marketeer readers: AI can also modernize automated customer service. It is often a complaint that traditional programmed self-service bots are limited and offer non-human like responses. However, chatbot technology using AI such as Amazon’s Lex is designed to provide more human-like interactions. (McAllister, 2017)

They can also help to lessen the demand on your human workforce. (McAllister, 2017)

Choosing the right solutions

Frankly, AI is still in its infancy, and its solutions are still relatively rare. However, the AI market is expanding exponentially, there are a sizeable amount of services offered by companies, from both Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Two of them I’d like to tell you about in particular:

  • Amazon’s AI services provide an API call to pre-trained services rather than developing and training their models.
  • SiteColo, a managed cloud hosting and domain registration provider, uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to handle customer workloads and dedicated resources, such as CPU, memory, and I/O. (Denver, 2017)

Before you start running towards such services, you need to ask yourself if you need them and if they are viable for you, of course we can advise you in this case..

Conclusion

AI has brought great comfort to humans as it can make labour-intensive tasks easier or take away the need for them completely. Although AI is still in its infancy, we are making use of Artificial Intelligence in almost every professional field. (Hill, 2018)

AI cannot be a more welcomed technology for taking away the headache of network managers. Equipped with Artificial Intelligence, network managers can now better interpret where they have problems with user experience and act accordingly.
